Collingwood star Darcy Cameron has put an emphatic end to swirling trade rumours, affirming his commitment to the Magpies with heartfelt conviction.
The premiership-winning ruckman was recently at the centre of speculation linking him to a potential return to his home state of Western Australia, with the West Coast Eagles reportedly eager to lure him away from the reigning premiers.
Despite still being under contract until the end of 2026, Cameron’s name surfaced in trade discussions after a report on SEN WA claimed West Coast had expressed strong interest. The Eagles, desperate to bolster their ruck stocks during a rebuild, were seen as a logical suitor for the in-form 29-year-old.
However, Cameron has moved swiftly to quell the noise. Speaking with AAP, he declared:
“Of course I want to stay. I’m very happy at the Pies.”
The former Albany product is currently enjoying a career-best patch, having finished runner-up in Collingwood’s 2023 Copeland Trophy count behind Nick Daicos. His value to the team remains immense, particularly in a season where Collingwood are once again flag favourites with a 10-2 record.
“My manager’s in constant conversations with people around here and I’ll let them sort that out,” Cameron added. “They’re such a good team. We’ll let them do the work and hopefully we can sort something out soon.”
Cameron’s loyalty comes at a critical time, as the Magpies navigate injury rotations and player management. In their recent 51-point demolition of Hawthorn, Cameron shouldered the ruck load with support from Tim Membrey and Brody Mihocek, while defender Billy Frampton also chipped in.
“It was still pretty much the same game time, same amount of ruck time,” he said. “They all did a good job, and Hawthorn don’t have a second ruck either.”
With a well-earned break ahead of their King’s Birthday clash against Melbourne, Collingwood fans can rest assured that one of their key pillars has no intention of departing.
