
The fiancée of Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki is opening up more about their relationship, her role as an NHL wife and their upcoming wedding. Caitlin Fitzgerald shared some insight into her world while speaking on a podcast hosted by Julie Petry, wife of Detroit Red Wings defenceman Jeff Petry, and Cat Toffoli, wife of San Jose Sharks alternate captain Tyler Toffoli.
On the “Never Offside” podcast’s Feb. 4 episode, Fitzgerald reflected on Suzuki being named the Montreal Canadiens’s newest captain in September 2022. Then 23 years old, the London, Ont.-born centre became the team’s youngest-ever captain, succeeding Shea Weber, who had been the team’s leader since 2018.
“We were so young — we are young,” Fitzgerald said of the transition with Suzuki, who’s now 25. “A lot of the vets were phasing out, we only had a few left. I just think it’s surreal but it’s been amazing. At the start, I was like, ‘Holy s—,’ for lack of better words. … Nick is definitely amazing and so deserving, and I think they made a great choice
