Duke University is set to add another chapter to its rich legacy by unveiling plans for a new bronze statue that will pay tribute to one of its most influential figures. The monument will stand as a symbol of excellence, tradition, and the lasting impact of leadership at the university.
While the identity of the honoree has not been officially confirmed, speculation centers on the legendary former basketball coach, Mike Krzyzewski, known as “Coach K.” After leading the Blue Devils for over four decades and securing five national championships, Coach K has become a name synonymous with Duke basketball. Fans and alumni have long called for a permanent tribute, and the announcement has ignited excitement across the Duke community.
University officials have confirmed that the statue will be placed near Cameron Indoor Stadium — the historic home of Duke basketball. Construction is expected to begin later this year, with an unveiling ceremony anticipated next spring.
“This statue will honor more than a career — it will celebrate the spirit, integrity, and excellence that define Duke,” said a university representative.

Duke already features several statues across its campus, including those of James B. Duke, Benjamin N. Duke, and Washington Duke. This new addition will serve not only as a tribute to athletic greatness but as an inspiration for future generations of Blue Devils.
Once completed, the bronze figure is expected to become a must-see landmark for students, fans, and campus visitors alike.
